Mission

  1. Support, promote, manage, carrying out scientific research on aquatic and terrestrial species. To conserve the biodiversity of the species and the natural environment of the resources where they live, framed in compliance with legal provisions and administrative offices of the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador (MAE).
  2. Design, plan and execute environmental sanitation projects.
  3. Evaluate the impacts of human-produced pollution on marine and terrestrial biodiversity. To make people aware of not using chemicals.

Goals

  • Develop molecular markers to distinguish wild populations of aquatic and terrestrial species and study current levels of genetic diversity.
  • Analyze the risk created by the introduction of genetically domesticated species or organisms (GMO, transgenic) for wild populations
  • Investigate the presence of heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, and antibiotic residues in humans, animals and ecosystems.
  • Study the prevalence of diseases (viruses, bacteria, parasites in aquatic and terrestrial species of Ecuador.
  • Create a genetic bank of tissues, nucleic acids and genetic libraries of aquatic and terrestrial species that will serve for future studies of infectious or zoonotic diseases, as well as for comparative studies of the genome of these species.
  • Establish a comprehensive database that contains genetic diversity, disease prevalence, and the presence of chemical pollutants in aquatic and terrestrial populations.
  • Establish networks with related entities related to research and formal and non-formal education.
  • Apply for national and foreign funds that promote the development of projects related to the knowledge, dissemination and protection of biodiversity. 2. Research and publish scientific papers on aspects of biological diversity.
  • Carry out environmental education activities and disseminate knowledge about biodiversity.
