ESMERALDAS-ECUADOR


Esmeraldas has the highest mangroves in Ecuador and the Pacific. And the most beautiful that we saw along the Ecuadorian coasts. We visited Esmeraldas, Las Piedras, Tonguiche, Pampanal and San Lorenzo were the collection sites of biodiversity samples. We met the President of the community of Las Piedras. In addition, a small lecture was given to college students.

MANABI-ECUADOR


In the province of Manabí, we visit in San Jacinto, Manta, Pedernales, Portovelo (Isla Corazón) and Cojimíez. This province is one of the most affected by the destruction of the mangrove swamp. Only in the estuary of Chone river, more than 90% has been requested. At the Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro, we spoke about the UNA SALUD / ONE HEALTH Program. Biodiversity samples were collected together with the president of Isla Corazón Alfredo Zambrano.

SANTA ELENA-ECUADOR


At the Santa Elena Peninsula State University, we spoke about UNA SALUD / ONE HEALTH Program. El Palmar and San Pablo were the sites where we collected biodiversity samples. Together with the president of the El Palmar Mangrove Association, José Gonzabay and José Zambrano, president of the Esteros, mangrove samples were collected. And they showed us the mangrove reforestation project in an abandoned shrimp farm.

GUAYAS-ECUADOR


We visit the community of Santo Domingo, Isla Matorrillo, Taura and Puerto el Morro. We spoke with the community and explained to them the project, we learned to differentiate the mangrove species and biodiversity samples were obtained. EL ORO-ECUADOR


We were in the communities of Las Huacas, Bajo Alto and Costa Rica, where we were able to observe the state of the mangroves and the living conditions of the inhabitants. Biodiversity samples (shrimp, shell, crab, fish and mangrove), water and sediment were collected. We explained to the community about the UNA SALUD / ONE HEALTH Program and learned about the needs of the inhabitants of these places. At the Technical University of Machala (UTM), we gave the talk about our projects and samples were processed in the Aquaculture laboratory.
