KNOW ABOUT THE EVENTS WE HAVE CARRIED OUT

2017
We held the Meeting "UNA SALUD / ONE HEALTH EPIGENOMICS: FROM SEDIMENT TO PEOPLE"
Boston, March 16-18, 2017.
The objective of the meeting was to initiate a dialogue between mangrove ecologists, crustacean biologists and population geneticists, the shrimp aquaculture industry, non-governmental organizations, government researchers, and public health professionals on the need to incorporate environmental epigenomic tools into Long-term assessments of health risks to the environment (mangroves, wetlands), animals (shrimp) and people caused by endocrine disrupting chemicals (or EDCs = endocrine disrupting chemicals) such as metals, PCBs, PAHs, antimicrobials and biocides such as Glyphosate and other pesticides, insecticidal toxins [PirA and PirB (PirAB)] and microbial transgenes (Bacillus thuringiensis, Agrobacterium sp) present in genetically modified (GM) crops and in the food chain.
Speakers discussed the holistic concept of ONE HEALTH / ONE HEALTH to help conserve the biodiversity of healthy mangrove ecosystems in the face of climate change, to keep animals healthy, and to protect children's long-term health.

2013

  • Educational workshop and meeting on Biodiversity and Conservation of Ecosystems. December 2013
  • The IMSEGI (International Marine Shrimp Environmental Genomics Initiative) Session was chaired at the World Aquaculture Meeting, AQUACULTURE 2013, in Tennessee-USA.
  • The scholarship for students "Johnnie Castro Montealegre Scholarship" was created to help with laboratory expenses for thesis associated with the holistic themes of our UNA SALUD / ONE HEALTH program.

  • We celebrate International Mangrove Day: On July 26, 2010 FUCOBI celebrated the International Day for the Defense of the Mangrove Ecosystem, with the participation in a local radio program of the Pedernales community where the objectives of the UNA SALUD program were announced / ONE HEALTH, and the importance of mangrove conservation to keep animals healthy and thus help public health. Topics such as heavy metal contamination, PAHs and POPs were discussed.

  • Scientific expedition: Una Salud / One Health Program. May 2010
  • First International Meeting on One Health / One Health. June 2010
