Friends of FUCOBI help to buy reagents for RT-qPCR tests to detect coronavirus in humans and animals in the US. The aid will be delivered to university laboratories that have the PCR equipment to process the diagnosis of COVID-19 with the qRT-PCR technique in humans. For more information, please contact our collaborator in Massachusetts, Dr. Acacia Alcivar-Warren: [email protected] We recommend reading the following article on coronavirus gene sequences (RdRp) in China carp mRNA: Conway MJ. Identification of coronavirus sequences in carp cDNA from Wuhan, China: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/jmv.2575 "Bottle-fed babies most at risk as study shows high lead exposure in US water."That’s the newest study about lead in tap water from Healthy Babies Bright Futures. In partnership with Virginia Tech, HBBF tested tap water from 343 cities in 46 states and found that 79% of homes had detectable levels of lead in water. And 40% of homes had lead levels above American Academy of Pediatrics’ recommended limit for children (1 ppb). The study also found that: 21% of homes have lead levels above the level that causes up to 1% loss in lifetime economic productivity for an exposed infant/child, due to IQ loss. Bottle-fed infants drink up to 10 times more water than adults relative to their body weight and get 10 times the lead dose as a result. 26% of black infants are exclusively formula-fed, leaving black babies at higher risk. Read the full report here, and then take action by signing the letter to the next Administration and the 117th Congress urging them to help cities replace the 6 to 10 million lead pipes in drinking water systems nationwide.
